Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy
Due to its effective results, IPL technology is extremely popular in the field of aesthetic medicine. It is a fast, safe and science-based treatment that helps to reduce a wide range of pigmented imperfections, acne-induced skin discolouration or post-holiday pigment spots. It is also an effective treatment for rosacea, acne and other skin conditions, with results that keep patients happy for years.
About the IPL procedure
During the treatment, the light from IPL technology penetrates into the skin, interacts with skin pigments (melanin and haemoglobin) and is selectively absorbed by the chromophore of the lesion. The absorbed energy is converted into heat and acts on the skin lesion, which naturally fades or diminishes after treatment.
IPL systems use high-intensity light sources that emit polychromatic light. Unlike laser systems, this light operates over a wide wavelength spectrum (from 515 nm to 1200 nm), which allows the dermatovenereologist to select individual treatment parameters (the power of the light emitted by the device) and to adapt to different skin types and indications.
We aspire to provide our patients with the highest quality services, so we use the new 2023 Lumecca IPL machine (InMode Ltd., Yokneam, Israel) at Sapiegos Clinic. To achieve effective results, the recommended number of treatment sessions usually ranges from 1 to 5, with sessions taking place every 4–6 weeks. Depending on the size of the area to be treated and the number of light pulses required, one treatment session usually lasts only a few minutes.
Why choose IPL treatment?
- Sapiegos Clinic uses the new Lumecca IPL 2023 machine;
- The procedure is performed by experienced dermatovenerologists;
- It is a safe and effective procedure that can solve many skin problems:
Treatment of rosacea (skin erythema). With the ageing process and the skin’s exposure to sunlight (UV rays), the appearance of new dilated capillaries is almost inevitable. IPL therapy is ideal for removing capillaries or slowing down the expansion of the capillary network as a preventive measure. Despite the fact that facial redness is caused by an extremely fine, highly branched network of deeper blood vessels, only a few treatments are needed to cure the skin with IPL.
Acne treatment and post-acne spot reduction. IPL light therapy is often used to treat acne. The deeply penetrating rays have a bactericidal and healing effect, so the treatment kills acne bacteria. IPL therapy is also used to reduce post-acne spots. It has been observed that the skin becomes healthier and more beautiful after the first treatments.
Removal of pigment spots. Thanks to its high specificity and selectivity, Lumecca IPL light therapy is one of the most effective treatments for pigmentation or redness of the skin caused by sun damage. IPL technology helps to even out skin tone, reduce pigmentation and discolouration caused by acne.
Am I the right candidate?
The IPL procedure is suitable for both men and women. It is especially recommended for people who experience discomfort due to:
- Dilated capillaries in the skin;
- Rosacea (skin erythema);
- Pigment spots, freckles;
- Acne and various other skin problems;
- Seborrheic dermatitis.
During the pre-treatment consultation, the dermatovenereologists will carefully assess your skin condition and advise you on the most suitable treatment for the desired effect.
When is the IPL procedure not performed?
Like any medical procedure, IPL therapy may also have contraindications and is therefore not performed:
- For pregnant and/or breastfeeding women;
- In case of open wounds or lesions at the treatment site;
- In case of oncological diseases, epilepsy, severe diabetes mellitus and some other diseases;
- When taking certain medications or dietary supplements (blood thinners should be avoided two weeks before the procedure);
- If you have a strong tan or use self-tanning products;
- If you have photosensitivity or are taking medications that may cause it.
